Mailbox: Logic Puzzle - Final Exam - Solution Bert's guess can't be correct because he would be first, not third. Charlie's guess can't be correct because Duggie would be first, not him. Duggie's guess can't be correct because then Duggie would be first, which means that Charlie's guess would be right and Charlie couldn't be first if Duggie already was. Alf's guess can't be right because that would put Bert in either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place and that's already been proven that it can't happen. Therefore, by elimination, Erine's guess has to be the right one, so Erine is first. By Erine's own guess, Alf is second and Charlie is fifth. Since Bert can't be third, he must be fourth and so by elimination, Duggie is third. |
